The lighting strategies for sites nestled in mountain tops is very different from what is appropriate in the warmer, tropical plains. In the former, the sun’s warmth is welcome during the day while in the latter it becomes important to filter it before receiving in an indoor space. At Theog, during the day expansive windows open up the interiors to the vistas beyond. And flush spaces with warm daylight. Therefore in the interior public ar eas, the artificial lighting is at its brightest intensity during the day as it strives to bring out some degree of contrast and accent, while competing with the natural lighting. By dusk, this reverses and downlighting is infact dimmed to create intimacy and warmth, and allow the guest to see through outside. This approach towards lighting is unique and relevant to these geographies – where, intensity and achieved lighting levels are in fact designed for daytime conditions, un derstanding solar paths and the daylight harvested in the space. Further, the feeling of quiet luxury and intimacy is recreated through generous floor, table and pendant lamps in the spaces. Detailing, materiality, texture, and elements are accented through lighting adding layers of depth and visual interplay of light and shadow.
