Conceived by UHA, London, the mall architecture is, as the name suggests, lofty! … in terms of both volumes and aspirations! The façade is superbly deceptive, con cealing a complex, illusionary inner world behind a simple box form –a distinctive destination for luxury retail and entertainment. The lighting intent sought to reinforce this transitional dipole moment… from pat tern to non-pattern; from rhythm, order, unity and wayfinding, towards motion, cha os, the divergent and the ephemeral… The Design Squiggle, illustrated by Damien Newman represents the design pro cess, as well as the experience of this project from interior to the exterior. When we sat down to design, we endeavoured to breakdown and unravel the complexity of the interiors - with its floating volumes and highly reflective surfaces. And once we began to comprehend the extreme layering, and decoding what is physical and what is merely a reflection, we began to appreciate the underlying order and the thought. It was the journey from intricacy and uncertainty towards clarity and fo cus, reinforced in the lighting.
